Fear of a Black Hat

A few years ago I had a lot of fun making hats without patterns. I made them, and I have no idea what happened to them after that, but I found these photos in my crafty blog archive, so I thought I’d share.

This one is black corduroy with a gold button on it. It looks vaguely beret style in this awful photo, but I am pretty sure it only stayed on for the photo, and wouldn’t actually be wearable in practicality. I seem to recall it might have been lined with green floral (or maybe that was the purse I made originally from the black corduroy).

This hat makes me think of those Strawberry Shortcake dolls from the 80s. Blueberry Muffin, I believe her name was. You gotta love the blanket binding strip used for accent. And you can’t really tell very well, but the top is rectangular. So, the hat basically looks like a paper sack when extended all the way. Again, no idea what happened to this hat. Maybe I will find it somewhere in the dark recesses of my craft stash some day.

Put a piece of cardboard in a four corner hat and it becomes a Polish folk costume! (Well, red felt, black nobby felt, and a peacock feather!)

    They are bloody marvelous anyhoo..

Haha, I love the blue one anyhow! :D

  4. Heather,

Well, Well, Well and I thought my creation was particularly bad! Anyway I understand your reference to strawberry shortcake dolls, but I have to say hat 2 looks like it’s edging has been stolen off a cake!

I thought it might be an idea to set up a flicker group for craft failures and we can all post our funny photos of our unique creations.

  5. Blueberry Muffin! you nailed it!

Definitely Blueberry Muffin, most recently seen in a rap video: Got my mind on my muffin and my muffin on my mind…

  7. Blueberry Muffin! Ah, memories! I’m not sure why, but I immediately flashed to that Noddy show that used to be on Sprout. Somebody on there used to wear a hat like that?
