I start so many projects with the best intentions… I think it’s going to be the next big thing, everyone’s going to want one and I’ll be able to sell them and become a mega-rich craft super-star!
And this is the sort of thing that ACTUALLY happens…

Little Pillbox Hat
So I decided to get serious and try to crochet a hat from an actual pattern. This is usually unheard of for me as I like to believe that I am above patterns even though I’ve only just recently learnt to crochet… a recipe for success. So I looked up a Pill-Box Hat pattern which I found at a Vintage Crochet site where the patterns have been scanned in and digitally restored for you to crochet from.

Now, above is what the hat should turn out like and the image is obviously from the original book. I tend to trust old patterns because they were probably written by your grandmother and she tends to know what’s what in crafting.

I actually list this as a success on my blog http://craftsandkathchown.blogspot.com/ but it is, in hindsight a big fail. It looks like there is something growing on upside-down salad bowl.
And my sister-in-law took it off my hands as a gesture of love, making me feel like it has a purpose and a meaning in life, probably at the back of her closet…
Well, if she doesn’t want to use it for a hat, it can be a nice little crocheted basket if you turn it upside down. ;) Good attempt though, and thanks for the link. I have some old issues of magazines from the 70′s that probably have some patterns that could be uploaded there. I’ve been wondering what to do with them, and thought I’d just scan them for me. But hey, sharing is great!
I just thought you should know that the pattern for the bag that the hat refered to was on the website. It’s here: http://www.freevintagecrochet.com/purses/ribbon-purse-pattern.html
Maybe you could try again?… :)
