Ok, so there are several fails here.
First off is Louie Lobster, which I made because I couldn’t think of anything ELSE to do with that hideous hot pink acrylic yarn I bought because it was cheap. I didn’t notice until afterwards that his tail was put together wrong (it was knit in 5 pieces and then sewn together). I also didn’t notice until it was too late that one claw looks rather wonky and was put on backwards. D: Wah.

Then Monday..I decided I just HAD to learn to crochet. Except there’s nobody to teach me except my good buddy Youtube. Compounding this little problem is the fact that I’m left handed which always makes things that much more complicated.

And last but not least is that shiny purple fun fur I couldn’t resist because it had been marked down from $4.99 to 71 cents. I had oogled it before but always passed it up because of the price. At 71 cents though, I couldn’t resist.
What came out of it though was Arnold the Blind Pygmy Puff (he has eyes you just can’t see them under all that fur). The pattern called to knit with 2 strands of fun fur and one strand of regular yarn on a sz 11 (I think it was) needle. With a ton of KFBs thrown in for good measure. Uh..how about no? I used a sz 15 (the largest needle I own) and it was difficult as heck with the double strand of fun fur and then a single strand of regular yarn. After a few minutes I said, “Oh bugger it!” and did my best to finish it off. I had intended it to be a toy for my son and instead it’s a cat toy. At least somebody’s getting some enjoyment out of it.
I learned to crochet recently too, mostly from this site, which has fantastic pictures.

Except I used the right-handed instructions.
Just in case you don’t know, American and English patterns call different stitches the same thing… Double crochet in English is the same as Single Crochet in American for example, so make sure you know which one they’re talking about.
I am sorry, but I like that lobster very much
the lobster is totally cute :-)
The purple thing is cute too, except I can’t figure anything out about it but the 3 legs. Which is why I stay away from fun yarns…..I’m not coordinated enough to use it!
For some reason I was reminded of the old Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer video and the land of misfit toys!
Those aren’t legs..those are his three-toed feet.
And the cat thinks he’s very nommy. *L* She loves to play with Arnold and play chase when I throw it for her.
The lobster’s funky pincher cracks me up! It’s so nice to see that people can learn and laugh at their mistakes. (This is way better than I could do though!)
I think Arnold is still cute!
Tho Lobster is so cute! I love to crochet but I really have only stuck to blankets. This is a cute idea for my niece I know she would love it. Thnx!
I have some fun fur in white that has been sitting untouched for the last six years. Maybe I should make my own little puffy friend ….

Dear – I don’t think the lobster is as bad as you might think. The furry thing is hilarious – and you express great fortitude for posting. Thanks for sharing!
I don’t express great fortitude. Honest. :) I just know how to laugh at my mistakes because I have this tendency to jump into things head first not knowing what the hell I’m doing. And when I fail, I fail spectacularly which is what makes my fails so funny.
great lobster…. very funny and cute!
there’s a great craftster on youtube that crochets left handed!!! http://www.youtube.com/user/tjw1963 she’s on a left handed kick right now, actually.
the purple thingy is cute!
… and just PURrr fect for a cat toy, because it is purple AND fuzzy
(not that purple is really likely to be that significant – I think it is only an urban legend that cats prefer the colour purple … but … I have noticed that a lot of cat owners seem to like purple ;-)
Can you give me a pattern for a pygmy puff that doesn’t use fun fur or fancy fur or whatever? Please i really need it!
You could probably make one from just regular worsted weight, I’m assuming.
I have one around here somewhere that was a practice piece that’s made out of a pink camo worsted.
I think this was the pattern I used–>http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/features/crafts/crochet/pygmypuff
Although the feet are different on mine. :)
The purple thing is just hilarious, it made my day:)
