Cheesecloth Ghost Craft… Nailed It

cheesecloth ghost [not a fail!

I had a vague memory of a craft I tried as a child. It’s an old-school technique, where you spray cheesecloth with laundry starch to make it stiff enough to form a self-standing Halloween ghost. Problem was, I couldn’t remember exactly how to do it. But I wasn’t going to let that deter me!

I decided I’d make a ghostly form out of an empty soda bottle, using a balloon for his head. Unfortunately the balloon kept bobbing around, even though I had it taped around the neck of the bottle. After I’d sprayed it, I realized my ghost didn’t have any arms… and it was just a sopping mess of bunched up cloth. Huh. Must have done something wrong…

cheesecloth ghost - nailed it

I am not accustomed to craft fails, and I was NOT going to have my fanny kicked by a ghost, of all things. So I gave it a second try, using a foam craft ball instead of a balloon, and making arms out of a bent hanger. Much better!

If you want to make one (minus all the mistakes I initially made), there’s a tutorial here: How to Make a Cheesecloth Ghost

You should use elmers glue and a little bit of water. It takes awhile to dry but turns out strong and great!!
