I found these delicious-looking Nutella Mug cakes, and I knew I had to try them.

Five minutes and a whole lotta whipped cream later:

“We definitely put too much of the ingredients in the mug so when they cooked in the microwave, they over flowed. If anyone is making these I highly suggest using a third of the ingredients it says.”

Thanks to Danielle for the submission!

  1. I am glad I am not the only person who would end up with cups looking like the Nailed it picture. Even though they don’t look perfect they still probably taste good.

I love this site. This happens to me on the regular. I blog over at but I’ve had many a failed craft and/or recipe.. nice mug cakes. i bet they tasted good and thats all that mattered! :)

But in the end you get to decide and control the amount of whipped cream. So why is it all over the place?
To make the attempt look worse? I imagine sans whipped cream it doesn’t look that bad.

I think the mugs she used are about 8 oz and the ones in the pintrest are about 16 oz. There’s your problem right there!

My mug cakes simply don’t mix together in the mug, as there’s always huge areas of dry flour the spoon didn’t reach. For just me, I mix in a dish and cook that. For multiple people, I mix in a jug and pour into each mug (at least an inch below the lip)
