Craft Wars Ep 1: Biggest CraftFail?

craft wars

I was so excited to watch last night’s premiere of TLC’s new show Craft Wars — it has been SUCH a long time since there’s been a great craft show on TV, and this one was just what a crafty show should be. Lots of glue guns, lots of Mod Podge, lots of color! Plus, I am a sucker for any kind of creative competition reality show. I think it’s safe to say I’ve found my new favorite summer show!

The contestants were fun — I am a huge fan of Christy Tomlinson (I love her show Art Redefined), and I think Tori Spelling looked beautiful! The craft challenges were so much fun.

If you missed the show, don’t forget to catch it next Tuesday night on TLC at 10/9c.

I thought it would be fun to highlight the night’s biggest CraftFails! You can help me pick them — comment below to let me know what you think!

Was it:

Christy's Ballet Pocket - Craft Wars

Christy Tomlinson‘s Ballet Shoe Pocket?

Traci's Glue Gunned Racket

Traci Remley‘s Glue Gunned Racket?

or

Cheryl's Unfinished Bag

Cheryl Burchett‘s Unfinished Bag?

What do you think was the biggest CraftFail of the night? Did you watch the show? Will you be watching it next week?

  1. Cheryl Burchett says:

Hey! It’s Cheryl here and I think that unfinished side of my bag was totally the biggest craft fail of the night! We were so convinced that we were done, my husband was waiting back stage ready to wrap me in his arms when the loser was sent home. Imagine his surprise (and Traci’s) when he went for the hug and realized it was her and not me! I was very lucky that they valued the idea of my design even more than the level of finish of my bag, but I was also so upset at not showing what I was truely able to do. If I were Taci, I might be upset, but she and I are buddies now. Crafters are good people so it’s hard to get folks really upset, I guess!

  2. Christy says:

I watched it, the Michael’s craft room made me hyperventilate just a smidge.

I thought the yellow bag with the tennis racket insert was one of the most hideous things ever, it kind of looked like it was made by a 5 year old. I did like the idea of it, but did not think it was well done at all. My favorite was the bowling bag.

  3. Chance says:

I enjoyed it enough to watch it next week. lol, Tori kinda bugged me with her over the top chipperness, but she always has been that way, so idk, I can’t really fault her for being *her*. :)

I think the tennis racket one was the WORST. ugh, is it just me, or isn’t part of the reason to use a gym to hold all that stink in!? All I could think is how bad the car would stink of feet.

The blue bag w/ ballet slippers was adorable, but yeah, the slippers were not pockets like that. I wish she would have attached some elastic bands on them and made the slippers water bottle holders. When they announced they only had an hour for the first project I nearly had an anxiety attack for the contestants! I don’t think I have ever went from idea to execution that quickly!

  4. Lindsay says:

I thought that Christy’s bag defeated the purpose – there was too much fabric, not enough supplies. I thought the same of her Play house too – Cheryl’s was GORGEOUS and totally deserved the win.

  5. Panya says:

The first one! The *only* thing I like about it is the blue/yellow color combination [which I've always loved].

  6. Traci Remley says:

I guess I would have to say it would be my tennis racket bottom… since it got me voted off LOL. This post totally made me laugh! Love it:)

  7. @Traci Remley I thought your ventilated bag using the tennis racket was such a good idea! I mean you got eliminated because it wasn’t “durable” enough and then week 2 of Craft Wars a foam core bird house trumped a wooden birdhouse. Craft Wars is actually a show that’s growing on me.

  8. Wendy Cohoon says:

I only caught the judging portion of the bags and what they showed on tv was not much for me to judge. The playhouses of the final round were wonderful and my husband does have to help me out with some things when I am crafting. What I didn’t like was that Tori’s children introduced the craft challenge but were not part of the judging. As of mother of now 3 wonderful adults, I can guarantee that the losing play house would be the one that the children would have liked to play in. Wrinkled ModPodge gave the kids something to touch so even the error there, created interest for its intended purpose. Creating a craft for kids has to appeal to kids. In a magazine the other would look better, but kids would not spend much time in it.
