Craft Wars Ep 5: Christmas Craftastrophe

So, are you still on board with Craft Wars? I think Episode Five is where this show has finally hit its stride. I loved the mix of crafters and I felt like they really represented crafting today. The show had a lot more tips on how to make things during the course of the competition, which is important because it helps teach newbies to crafting a few things while they are entertained by the competition. The judges’ complaints seemed more reasonable on this episode, and the level of craft projects was attractive. There were several crafts on this episode that I could see people actually making after they watched the show.

It was great to see my real-life friend Margot Potter on the show. She is so hilarious in person, so it was great to see her on TV sharing her kookiness with the world.

So, it’s that time of week where we discuss the biggest CraftFails of the night — those things that the judges complained about. Which one do you think was the biggest crafting offense?

Was it the excess hot glue strings on Margot Potter’s wreath?

Was it the sockball-like rosettes on Cheryl Darrow‘s wreath?

Or, the lack of design plan in the placement of embellishments on Ivan Lopez‘s last-minute wreath?

I am the queen of craftastrophes, not just on TV but in my studio where I truly do take giant risks and make glorious messes. But I’m also a gal who firmly believes that the only craft fail is failing to craft! We show the seams, we share the glue boogers and we craft on! I love you, Ms. Mann!

Both of Ivan’s wreaths were huge CraftFails! I can’t even tell what in the world he was trying to do with the first one, & the second one was just stuff thrown on with no thought as to whether it would look good together. I did like the top part with the wrapping & buttons, he should have done that on the whole thing.

What bothers me about the show is the seeming bias towards traditional crafters & their boring (& often over-the-top) craft creations. I loved Margot’s work & was just sad that she lost.
