Hula Hoop Chandelier, Sort Of

Sure, it’s super duper helpful to follow a tutorial to the letter when you’re trying to exactly replicate a project, but you don’t always need to.  There is nothing wrong with doing things a little differently to make the project your own, and sometimes it’s alright to skip steps as a time saver, but coloring outside the lines can lead to a scribbly mess.   Reader Betty decided to take on making a hula hoop chandelier like this one from Sarah with an H, making a few alterations to the directions.

Where exactly did this project go bad?  Well, there were a few wrong turns along the way.

She was heavily medicated to begin with, a condition that isn’t know for aiding craft skills or decision making, so perhaps this project was doomed from the start.  Wrapping the hoop in lace seemed too time consuming and beyond her patience at the time, so she skipped it.  It should still look okay, right?  Then she realized she didn’t have any icicle lights, just regular strings.  Why not give it a try anyway?

The result?  It looks like, well, a hula hoop wrapped in Christmas lights.  Maybe another dose of prescription drugs will make it look prettier…

Well, for starters, those are the wrong kind of Christmas lights…the ones you are looking for are called “Icicle lights” and they dangle down and create the light suspension effect.

you can’t exactly call something a pinterest fail if you don’t even have the correct items to make said project; therefore, shouldn’t have even made it onto the website.

  3. A lot of craftfails come from exactly that – people trying to make things with substitutions to the materials list.

@Isabella- The post states that she realized she didn’t have the right lights but thought it would work cause she was high on medication.
