‘Tis the time of year when you want to try delicious recipes full of cinnamon, spice and everything nice.
You’re even willing to spend lots of time on it with the assumption that your efforts will pay off and everyone will ooh and ahh at your creations.
Reader Jessica wanted to try this wonderful recipe for Caramel Apple Popcorn Balls. It looked so beautiful and called for homemade caramel.
It wouldn’t take that long to make, either. Most of the time spent would be cooking and reducing the apple cider to get it a little “syrupy” – a mere 40 minutes.
It didn’t say ANYTHING about taking three hours!
When Jessica finally got the syrup to the consistency she wanted – three hours later – she was ready to add the other ingredients. This was the part she’d waited so patiently for.
Was there a secret step where you were supposed to add a thickening agent?
Surely after three hours the popcorn and caramel would cooperate and magically morph into little balls!
Then again, maybe everyone would like flat popcorn balls. Or at least a little bit of coated popcorn?
That runny sauce got all over the table. Perhaps some neighborhood kids could just come over and lick it up.
But we know one thing: Jessica nailed it!
