Vodka Gummy Bear Soup

Problem: Your desire to snack while drinking makes it time consuming and laborious to achieve college-level drunkenness. You want to sing karaoke, table dance and make inappropriately lewd comments to strangers all night, but that pesky food keeps absorbing the alcohol out of your blood stream.

Solution: Add booze to your snacks!

Pinterest to the rescue – it’s full of recipes for vodka-soaked gummy bears like this one from Cooking Quidnunc that’ll keep you partying until the wee hours, or until you face-plant onto the bathroom floor, whichever comes first.

CraftFail reader Stephanie was somehow able to exercise enough will power to wait the required three days while her bears marinated and plumped up. Except… they didn’t. Instead, they slowly dissolved until, says Stephanie, “No longer did individual gummies exist, but a thin gummy layer at the bottom of the container.”

The colors all ran together, creating what she called “strangely colored sugar vodka soup.”

Hey, soup is still a food, right? So this still counts as a drinking snack! Plus, it’ll taste great with my tequila crackers.

  1. The same thing happened to me. And bleah, gummi flavored vodka is not delicious–at least not when it’s ALL the flavors blended together. My kids were pissed that I had stolen their gummis and I was pissed that I had ruined my vodka. Curse you Pinterest!

Yeah, not all gummy bears are created equal. I also found out the hard way. The best ones are Haribo, in the gold package.

Yes! I’m so glad i’m not the only one who failed at something that seems so simple. They were disgusting!

  4. Heather says:

It worked for me, but they tasted NASTY. 1 was enough.

  5. abby says:

haha!! common mistake! you have to FREEZE the bears before you soak them or they will turn to soup.

  6. Abby says:

I used Haribo gummy bears and Smirnoff Vodka. Never felt drunk but sure felt hungover a couple hours later.

I’ve made these with the albanese regular (not sugar free) bears and never had any problems. It takes more like 10 days to get them fully soft and jelly like and ready to get you drunk. I used almost a whole bottle of 151 with about 2 pounds of bears. Stirred several times a day the first week and added more vodka to cover as they absorbed it. I made them for Christmas gifts one year and people offered me money to make them after that!
