Muffin Top Cookies – a CraftFail fix

How-to-make-cupcake-from-mix

Brace yourselves, because Debra of Urban Moo Cow has the single best CraftFail solution I’ve ever seen.

See, she thought making cupcakes from a box mix would mean that baking edible cupcakes was a realistic possibility, even though she’s already explained in hilarious detail why she’s been banished to Pinterest Purgatory, which she describes as a place “where the craftless souls wander around making straight lines with a wooden ruler.”

But hey, just because experts like the fabulous Tidy Mom can make perfect cupcakes using a mix that taste like Grandma’s made-from-scratch homemade variety, doesn’t mean everyone can.

Case in point: among Debra’s crafty and kitchen-related transgressions, she confesses to a time when she burned cupcakes she made from a mix – but here’s where the genius comes in:

She cut the tops off and called them cookies.

Lesson for the day: decapitated muffins = cookies.

Okay, so she said they still tasted terrible, but she made the icing FROM SCRATCH, people, and that has to count for something. She also gets bonus awesomeness points for taking a picture with the burnt blunt stumps in the background – and for letting us feature them on CraftFail.

Love it! Though I feel in equal measure impressed and betrayed that Deb made the icing from scratch!

  2. Anne says:

Question: How on Earth does one mess up a boxed cupcake mix? It’s practically foolproof!

  3. robyn says:

Trust me, Anne, you can mess up *anything* if you just wait patiently enough while it burns in the oven.

  4. Kat says:

LOL this cracked me up so much.
