Strawberry Yuck-cakes

strawberry cupcakesWith this recipe for real strawberry cupcakes from Allrecipes.com, you can make yummy baked goods using only real, fresh ingredients – no artificially flavored gelatin here! So healthy! Don’t they look delicious, topped with a creamy swirl of frosting?

CraftFail friend Tamara of Confessions of a part-time working mom thought so too, so she decided to whip up a batch!

strawberry yuck-cakeUh oh, it looks like when she was whipping up that frosting, her patience took a beating – she just couldn’t wait until the butter was completely softened, leaving her with unsightly (but probably delicious) butter lumps.

However, Tamara wasn’t about to let some icky icing come between her and CAKE, so she ditched the frosting and just decorated with berries. She said it was better that way anyhow, so it sounds like a win!

frosting fail cakes with berriesWay to make a healthy cupcake ACTUALLY HEALTHY, Tamara!

Robyn, thanks for featuring my strawberry baked good on your blog! It is comforting to know that even though things don’t turn out as planned, they still serve a purpose ;-)
And I am afraid, now that I know this, we’ll become frequent friends. Actually I think that’s a good thing!

If you use gelatin to make cupcakes, you’re doing it wrong!

I wonder if you make frosting like that and just leave it out a little, then mix again, wouldn’t the lumps go away?

Haha, I just discovered your blog recently but I love it! I like making cupcakes and cakes myself and sometimes I struggle with the decoration but it’s really motivational to see these pictures. Thanks for sharing:)
