Pretty Pom Pom Panic

tissue paper pom poms

I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve actually successfully made my own tissue paper pom poms. Okay, fine, they were from a kit, and the tissue paper was pre-cut and pre-folded and pre-stacked, but I do remember twisting wire around the middle ALL BY MYSELF! I also remember ripping a lot of tissue paper as I tried to separate the layers, but… enough about me, let’s hear how CraftFail reader Jenifer did with these DIY tissue paper pom poms from two twenty one!

My mother’s 60th birthday is fast approaching and I think the 2 week deadline has made me lose my mind. I generally am aware of my own limitations as a crafter (generally, anything more challenging than gluing ribbon onto paper circles is beyond my area of expertise.) However, in these last few weeks of party planning all of the stress has clearly given me a stroke as I decided to make tissue paper pom poms. I looked at several tutorials and they look deceptively easy, in fact they look idiot proof, which is why I decided to try it. I picked a tutorial that had picture instructions! And went to work … 20 minutes later I had finished two of them. Now, I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything but they look great.

Great if your blind, deaf aunt Gertrude (who is 100) made them. The first one I realized quickly was much too big, I had obviously missed a step or two there…

The second one got torn up because the sheets won’t separate so easily. I think we’re going to skip the pom poms at the birthday party this year!
