Peppermint Ornament Uh-Oh

peppermint ornaments

When CraftFail reader Amanda saw these peppermint candy Christmas ornaments by Hello Homebody on Pinterest, she knew she wanted to try them right away.

But she found a way to make them even better – with IKEA cookie cutters that make shapes that fit together to make 3D trees and stars!

Her trouble started immediately, with the static-charged plastic candy wrappers sticking to e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g in her house. Then, hands hobbled by the task of unwrapping four zillion candies, Amanda carefully filled the cookie cutters and excitedly slid them into the oven.

Just three short minutes later, she went to check on the progress of her lovely peppermint ornaments. She was expecting them to look like this:

But instead, they looked like this:

Amanda explains, “…well, apparently 3 minutes is too much. They were everywhere! They’d leaked out from under the cutters and they were already hard as SOON as I get them out of the oven! I couldn’t salvage anything. I tried to just break the little bits off of the edges, but they shattered everywhere. I made the biggest mess ever! I suppose I just wasn’t -cut out- for this craft! HA!”
