Baby… booties?
It’s been a while since I have sewn anything. It shows! I tried to make these super cute booties
for my friend, Sara (Lena, her baby in her belly!) for mothers day and boy did I fail.

I actually made these and had them listed on one of my shops. They are supposed to be coin purses. Both are lined and both have Velcro closures. Only a mother could love something this ugly. They didn’t sell, gee, I wonder why? I had a garage sale and I couldn’t even give them away. See the price tags. When I get done with this, they are in the trash. Don’t ya just love a bargain!

It’s a shrug crocheted in somewhat loose, what I thought would be fashionable, slip stitches. The 3/4-sleeves end with a connoisseur’s blend of uncommon stitches–a swingy ruffled angora fantasy. In my mind.
The big reason for the fail is that I used a large crochet hook to make stretchy slip stitches in novelty chenille yarn. I can’t think of a bigger invitation for chenille yarn to “worm“. Even before the worming began, the stitches stretched unevenly, also thanks to the texture of the yarn. It was especially noticeable on the shoulders (ugh!). To top it off, the angora look turned into a ratty look.
After wearing once or twice, it looked as if an animal had chewed on it 20 years ago.
This CraftFail blog inspired me to try every which way to make lemonade with this lemon. I tried blocking it,
adding black velvet ribbon accents (see photo at right), even going so far as to consider: might this shrug be turned into capri pants? Yikes! nooo!
I go into a little more detail in this blog entry.

I gave birth to the sweetest little girl who tugged on my crafty heart from her first breath. October 1st, I came up with the sweetest idea. I’ll dress her as a bumble bee for Halloween! Make a cute little A-line jumper made of warm black and yellow felt that will keep her cozy and match it with a hand knit hat. Perfect, right?
Except used a dull old rotary cutter to cut the strips of yellow, so it looks like I was drunk when I cut them…
Part bumble bee/part hobo and 100 percent CRAFT FAIL.

You can see her little antenna have wilted out of craft shame. Nice matching stripes, eh?

I think she’s cute enough to get away with it. But she knows this isn’t right. She can’t even look directly at the camera out of baby disgust with my crafting.

I promise, kid, I’ll buy you a costume next year… For more of the back story, check out my blog, Good Crafternoon.
