Actually, you can get a really cool pastel effect by layering tissue paper and simply adding water.

For example:

Take a white piece of tissue paper and fold it into a square. crumple it up a bit (to take away consistency). fold a blue, a purple and a pink together into one, 3 layered square and place that on top of the white. Place it all on a baking rack above some sort of pan (so you don't get dye-colored water everywhere)

The next part takes a few days. pour, in very small amounts, water onto the multicolored square. You need to let it dry between pourings. You can do small circles (small drops of water) or large tie-dye looking rings (large drops of water). By the end of it, all 4 pieces of tissue paper will be gorgeous and multicolored!

How does it not fall apart? It seems like it would be only one step up from trying to dye TP. I feel like I'm missing something here. I don't think the lighter color was fail, necessarily, either.

I like the way you presented your tie-dye paper. With the fold it gives hints of a diaper that has seen better days.
Thanks for sharing, makes me feel better than I have so many 'less than perfect' moments when I craft!

Yep, I agree- yours turned out so much better! I think the bold colored tie-die is so 80's. Your pastel version is so pretty. You could always use a bold colored ribbon to add a punch of color.

When we tie dye shirts, the paper we wrap the shirts in while they are "curing" always turns out beautiful and we use it to wrap presents in. I've never thought to actually dye the paper on purpose. I am intrigued and may try it.
