Moss Topiary Fail

April3

by holly @ artmeetcraft

It was a good idea, but I was so eager to try a large version of my mini moss topiaries that I grifted the moss straight off the trees and glued it to the styrofoam right then and there… okay, I waited until I got inside, but you get the idea.

This is where research might have done me some good. You see, moss SHRINKS as it dries, and I mean “shrinks” like your favorite wool sweater that your husband mistakenly put in the dryer (true story–love you honey)! I had some major continental drift going on, but luckily it was still a week out to the event I was making it for, and I only had to go get more moss, dry it out, and glue it in the cracks.

The moral of the story: let it dry, let it dry, let it dry!
