Hey, good idea with sewing them together to make a cushion! That might be kind of pretty. What sort of thread would be durable enough for that kind of thing? (I'm as much a sewer as I am a weaver, clearly.)

Besides the glue smudged on it, I actually like yours better! I like the chunky square blocks way better than the round fish scale look. I'd say you actually did nail it.

I have been doing this for a long time, with queen size and full size sheets. I have always know how to fold a fitted sheet, I guess my mom taught me..but it does not look as perfect as Martha's. To get Martha's you would have to iron, or buy new and take it right out of the wrapper and put it in the pillowcase. :) Also to get perfect fold like that they probably use some kind of folding board, like they use in stores to get the shirts and sweaters to look perfectly stacked. I find if you fold the open end under and put it to the back of the shelf it looks neater.

My guess is to get rug to lie flat you would have to weave even more loosely. I am not weaver but your examples look like what happens when you try crochet a flat circle like a doily, but either work much too tightly or don't add enough increases.

We had a similar fail with our hula hoop weaving. Solution: Weave another bowl-shaped thing, sew them together and stuff for garden cushions. Win!
